Abhishek Bachchan won’t be lip syncing to the remix version of his dad’s chartbuster track ‘Jumma Chumma De De‘ [Hum] for his upcoming film Players. Though there were some serious conversations around this popular number from the past to make it for the film, all such plans have been dropped and there would be no more addition to the Abbas-Mustan film.
“Till about 15 days back, the makers were contemplating adding a promotional song in Players to further enhance buzz around the film. Though Pritam has composed 4-5 dance numbers to the film, producers Viacom and T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar felt that it won’t be a bad idea to add one more to the list. Since it would have been too much to expect the composer to churn out a new song pronto, especially since the film is just round the corner, there was brainstorming around which yesteryear number to be picked and chosen”, informs our well placed source.
However, Abbas-Mustan were not really on board as they felt that Players was good to go as-is without any more updates. Moreover, they had already spent over 6 months in the post production of the film and any last minute changes like this would have further hampered their plans.
“Yes, though Abbas-Mustan were against the idea to begin with, they did relent eventually though quite reluctantly”, the source continues, “This is when the songs were brought on the table and the director duo along with Pritam were given an option to pick and choose.”
Contrary to reports though, it wasn’t ‘Jumma Chumma‘ but ‘Tamma Tamma Loge‘ from Sanjay Dutt’s Thanedaar that was actually short-listed. Reason being that T-Series had the rights for ‘Tamma Tamma Loge‘ and hence it was simpler for them to go ahead and rearrange/remix it for Players.
“Yes, ‘Tamma Tamma Loge‘ was really in contention. Since it sounds quite similar to ‘Jumma Chumma‘ (both songs were actually based on Mory Kante’s ‘Tama Tama‘), it was a no brainer to work on either of the two. However, the decision was soon reversed as much time had already been spent in contemplation and multi city promotional tour was keeping the cast busy as well. Abhishek, Sonam, Bipasha and Neil have been travelling extensively and it would have been impossible to shoot the song, edit, promote and then include in the final print”, adds the source.
When contacted, Pritam confirmed that he isn’t working on any new song. “I am aware that there were some initial talks of working on ‘Tamma Tamma‘ but now nothing like that is happening. There won’t be any changes to the album.”
Makes sense because with New Year revelries round the corner, the song production would have been no less challenging.

2012 Bollywood begins with a heist and talking about Players, don’t mark down Abbas-Mustan not being one. They are big time Players when it comes to chasing box office successes. Trace their last decade and you’ll know how successful they have been in their heist at the box office. The typical setting of a thriller movie is an urban city with colours used from black to grey to white to emphasise the helplessness of characters. Welcome Abbas-Mustan, the colourful duo who’ll always be spotted in crisp white from top to toe. Their thriller movies are filled with rainbow colours and their characters emphasise strength. And even though they’re masters in twisting the thriller genre in the most unexpected manner, you’ll see Abbas-Mustan sitting quietly on their director’s chair in front of the monitor, call their shots, pack up, go to the edit table and present you with Bollywood’s best thriller movies you’ll ever see on the wide ‘white’ screen, and Players is heading towards being yet another masterstroke by master craftsmen Abbas-Mustan. UK’s Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama‘s London correspondent ends the year 2011 with quite a ‘thrill’ and one of them is seeing Abbas-Mustan wearing ‘black’. Shocked? Read on and find out!
“We were in Moscow when we got a call from Bipasha and she was jovial and so excited to be a part of Players”
We had to go to Russia for some urgent work regarding Players and by that time we had already approached Bipasha to play a part in our movie. We told her to listen to the script in a narration we had kept for her rather than her reading the script. Thrillers are better heard than read we thought. We were in Moscow when we got a call from Bipasha and she was jovial and so excited to be a part of Players. The day we landed, that same evening she came over to our office and the rest is history.
“Bipasha looks hot in her bikini and she did not object one bit to wear it”
Bipasha worked out for three months before her shoot in New Zealand as she wanted to look at her ‘fit’ best. We gave her the New Zealand schedule dates and she hit the gym with full force. Bipasha looks hot in her bikini and she did not object one bit to wear it as the scene demanded it. She was very open to suggestions and she too gave her valuable inputs. When she walked out of the waters, the crowd went in frenzy. She was looking hot.

“Every film we make is bigger than our previous movie”
It’s just not the cast who are termed as Players. We too are Players as directors. Our editor and brother Hussain too is a Player. Same with our DOP Ravi Yadav, and though we not necessarily run behind gold (laughs), we do run behind the making of a blockbuster movie. Players is one project we feel we’ve put a lot into. Every film we make is bigger than our previous movie and we’ll make sure that it’s as good an investment as gold.
“Bobby plays a magician in the movie who creates illusions”
Bobby Deol is the surprise package in the movie. He plays a magician in the movie who creates illusions. It will take the audiences by surprise. He has been a dear friend and he’s the only actor who has worked with us in most of our movies. He’s a sweet chap and his acting abilities are really underrated. We’ve got the best out of him.
“Abhishek made us wear black jackets after a lot of persistence”
The great thing about Abhishek Bachchan is that he will listen to you carefully throughout the entire narration. But on the sets, he is a complete director’s actor. He will only do what the director tells him. He told us, “I want to go with your conviction and your vision. Please tell me what to do and I will do just that”. And of course as we all know, he is a complete prankster. He did make us wear black jackets (laughs).
“We met AB’s and Aishwarya’s cute little daughter. Only time will tell whether she turns out to be a prankster like her dad”
We met Abhishek and Aishwarya’s kid. She is so cute and adorable. She did give us the look just like Abhishek Bachchan does (laughs). Only time will tell whether she turns out to be a prankster like AB (laughs).

Priyanka Chopra plays an upcoming actress and Shahid Kapoor plays a struggling music composer from the 1960s in Kunal Kohli’s film. And Kohli insists she’s a happy character. “Neither Priyanka nor Shahid is in an unhappy space in the script. The fact that they’re both intrinsically happy people helped,” says the director.
Reacting tongue-in-cheek to the character being described as an unhappy actress lost in a haze of alcohol, Kohli quips, “I think they’re getting my film confused with the second-half of The Dirty Picture. Priyanka plays a very happy actress in my film.”
Priyanka and Shahid are in fact supposed to be so well sorted and adjusted that director Kunal Kohli wanted them to visit those emotions, places and friends during the shooting of the film that kept them happy.
It is being suggested by certain sources from within the film industry that Priyanka involuntarily ended up spending more time shooting for Kunal Kohli’s film with Shahid Kapoor than for Anurag Basu’s film with Ranbir Kapoor.
When asked if Kunal Kohli’s film was in any way responsible for the delay the director protested, “On the contrary, Anurag Basu and I have swapped Priyanka dates. I took his one-month schedule from August 15 to September 15 to shoot in London and I gave my schedule from July 15 to August 15 to Anurag. Beyond that I’ve no clue about the schedules of Barfee. I shot with Priyanka on the dates allocated to me. That’s it.”
But the fact is, Kunal Kohli’s epic film spanning nearly a decade and requiring number of locations was completed in record time, and before Anurag Basu’s film, although the latter started shooting long before.
And Priyanka Chopra has done as much homework playing the autistic character in Barfee as she has to play the “happy” 1960′s actress in Kohli’s film. For Kunal’s film, she was regularly in touch with two of the sunniest most glamorous actresses of the period Asha Parekh and Saira Banu, taking not just fashion tips but also tips on how to remain positive and sunny.
Says Kunal Kohli, “It wasn’t just about the clothes and hair. Ashaji and Sairaji represent a certain spirit of bonhomie and joy. I wanted Priyanka to play her character with the same positivity. She is an actress but no bechari and certainly not a victim.”
